Dafydd ab Hugh, born David M. Friedman in Los Angeles, was an American science fiction and fantasy author. During the 1980s he served in the United States Navy, training as a radar intercept officer in the hope of eventually becoming an astronaut.

He began his writing career with the fantasy novel Heroing in 1987. He was perhaps best known for his award-nominated 1990 novella “The Coon Rolled Down and Ruptured His Larinks, a Squeezed Novel by Mr. Skunk,” as well as for novels set in the Star Trek universe. He also co-wrote the four-volume Doom series with Brad Linaweaver.
