Rebecca Thorne recommends

As You Wake, Break the Shell (2026)
(As You Wake, Break the Shell, book 1)
Becky Chambers
"THIS is the book I've been waiting for. Cora and Signy are two of the best characters I've read, and their romance is so, so familiar. Through emotion and empathy, Becky Chambers has proven time and time again that science fiction doesn't have to feel distant."

The Impossible Garden of Clara Thorne (2026)
Summer N England
"A stunningly magical and sexy debut. Clara and Hester are the couple I've been waiting for - powerfully magical enemies to lovers, with a slow burn that ignited the entire book. Couple that with a beautifully whimsical world full of mermaids and orcs and fae, animal companions I was dying to snuggle (but carefully, because hedgehog), and an edge of looming darkness, and I was hooked."

Death Meets Cute (2026)
(Death Meets Cute, book 1)
J Penner
"Filled with so much love, heart, and delicious baked goods."

The Keeper of Magical Things (2025)
Julie Leong
"This is what cozy fantasy is all about. Fresh love, fantastic friendship, a dash of unpredictable magic... and dragon-cats."

A Witch's Guide to Magical Innkeeping (2025)
Sangu Mandanna
"A story filled with love, heart, and hope, where every character is unapologetically themselves... Without shying away from the tougher realities of life, Mandanna somehow captures the essence of everyday magic - the magic we find in the love of our friends and family."

The Magician of Tiger Castle (2025)
Louis Sachar
"While keeping the heart and humanity of Holes, Louis Sachar blazes into the adult space with The Magician of Tiger Castle. In a tale centuries old, the reader stands beside Anatole, a court magician, as he is swept into kingdom politics and moral decisions. Sachar paints a stunning story from the perspective of an immortal destined to observe...and the consequences when he decides to intervene."

The Man Made of Smoke (2025)
Alex North
"It is a rare talent to be able to write a compulsive thriller with such heart. The Man Made of Smoke is a rare gem that is both terrifying and heart wrenching, bittersweet and hopeful, nightmarish and deeply, deeply human. Written with skill and intelligence, and told with empathy and nuance, this is a novel that's not to be missed. I loved every word."

House of Frank (2024)
Kay Synclaire
"Wow. Just wow. A heartbreaking, magnificent debut that offers space to sit with grief - and reads like a warm hug."

The Spellshop (2024)
(Spellshop, book 1)
Sarah Beth Durst
"The Spellshop sweeps readers into a world of merhorses, illegal spells, and first loves . . . it's as comforting as homemade jam on a fresh baked muffin!"

Saints of Storm and Sorrow (2024)
(Stormbringer Saga, book 1)
Gabriella Buba
"Saints of Storm and Sorrow is a vicious examination of the struggles a colonized culture must endure to survive, bundled in a devastating storm of rage, grief, and lost love. Love, betrayal, incredible worldbuilding, and righteous female rage... hell yeah!"

The Honey Witch (2024)
Sydney J Shields
"Gorgeously lyrical and utterly addicting."
