CON LAW

John Bookman - Book to his friends - is a tenured professor at the University of Texas School of Law in Austin. He rides a Harley and wears jeans and cowboy boots and his hair too long to suit the conservative dean. He's thirty-five, handsome and unmarried but seldom without a female companion. He teaches karate and Con Law, law school vernacular for Constitutional Law. He is a recognized constitutional law expert, debates senators on political talk shows and reduces them to blithering fools, writes scathing op-eds, and is often mentioned as a possible Supreme Court nominee. He is famous for taking on lost causes and winning. Consequently, when he arrives at the law school each Monday morning, hundreds of letters await him, letters from lost causes around the country seeking his help. Some letters are funny, others are sad, most are hopeless. But every now and then, one letter captures his attention. Then, with only his latest law school intern in tow, Professor Bookman takes off on yet another adventure - not in search of ancient artifacts like Indiana Jones, but in search of truth and justice - "or as close thereto as the law allows." In this first installment of a new series, Book investigates a murder in the world of art and fracking in Marfa, Texas.

END OF DAYS (Con Law II)

Fifty ATF agents raid a remote compound outside Waco, Texas, at dawn to execute search and arrest warrants. The search warrant identifies two .50-caliber Browning Machine Guns; the arrest warrant names Jesus Christ. The ATF agents don't make it to the front doors.

Ninety miles south in Austin, Professor John Bookman reads a letter from an old woman whose daughter took her two young girls to live in a religious cult six years before. Her daughter wrote that the End of Days is near. She fears they might drink the Kool-Aid. She begs Book to save her granddaughters. The cult inhabits a massive compound called the Garden of Eden outside Waco.

Book and his intern travel to the compound intent on bringing the girls out peaceably, only to find the Feds there first - and to learn that peace is not an option.

PARTS & LABOR: The Adventures of Max Dugan

Max Dugan, 10, is a fourth-grader battling bullies at school and his emotions at home; his father deployed to Afghanistan and did not return. His mother, Kate, a labor-and-delivery nurse, struggles to maintain the family, which also includes Scarlett, 14, and Maddy, 4. The therapist says they are not coping well. In fact, the Dugan family is a mess - until a strange boy named Norbert moves in next door and changes their lives in more ways than they could ever imagine.
