Simon Mason recommends

The Red Shore (2025)
(DS Eden Driscoll, book 1)
William Shaw
"I loved it. A sucking rip-tide of a plot, a working-boat Devon setting so fresh you can taste the salt tang of the sea, a cast of spikily individual characters and, at the book's emotional heart, the original and captivating story of a bachelor uncle policeman and his vulnerable nine-year-old nephew thrown together by adversity."

The Midnight Clock (2024)
Jamie Costello
"A marvellously exciting - and thought-provoking - time-travelling murder mystery. Smart, funny, moving, atmospheric - I laughed a lot, cried once, could not stop reading, and now actually believe in time travel."

Dead Rich (2022)
G W Shaw
"Great storytelling with marvellously created tension and cunning twists, and engaging characters."
