USA flag

Anika Scott lives with her husband and two daughters in Essen, Germany, where her debut novel is set. She grew up in Michigan, USA and has degrees in International Politics and Journalism. She began her career wanting to be a CIA agent and had security clearance from an internship at the State Department in Washington, but CIA applications included never being able to write stories or keep a diary. Anika loves stories too much for that, and so became a journalist instead. She was staff on the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Chicago Tribune before becoming a freelance journalist in Germany: her work has appeared widely in the US and European media. She runs an online resource about post-war German history at

Daughters of Victory (2023)
Gabriella Saab
"What's the best strategy to survive in a place as evil as Auschwitz? For Maria, a young member of the Polish resistance in Gabriella Saab's debut The Last Checkmate, chess is a lifeline... The Last Checkmate kept me turning pages long into the night. A fantastic debut!"
The Witch and the Tsar (2022)
Olesya Salnikova Gilmore
"A perfect blend of fantasy and historical fiction... Immersive and beautifully written, Yaga's story reminds us that gods-like humans-can choose their own fates."
Radar Girls (2021)
Sara Ackerman
"As warm as the Hawaiian sun, Radar Girls made me love the islands that Daisy and her friends stepped up to protect in World War II. Their work to safely guide ships and planes in the Pacific theater was heroic, and one more proof that there were no "women's" and "men's" jobs, just a job to be done for the good of all. Brave, determined and fun, the WARDs preserved their home, and the big-hearted generosity of the people who live there."
