Ted White

Ted White was an American science fiction writer, editor, fan writer and music critic. Born Theodore Edwin White in Washington, D.C., in 1938, he became active in science fiction fandom as a teenager and won the 1968 Hugo Award for Best Fan Writer. He later made a major professional mark as editor of Amazing Stories and Fantastic from 1969 to 1979, helping to bring new writers, artists and a stronger fannish voice to both magazines.

As an author, White wrote the Qanar novels Phoenix Prime, The Sorceress of Qar and Star Wolf!, the Tanner novels Android Avenger and The Spawn of the Death Machine, and standalone works including The Jewels of Elsewhen, The Secret of the Marauder Satellite and By Furies Possessed. He also collaborated with Terry Carr as Norman Edwards on Invasion from 2500, and with Dave van Arnam as Ron Archer on Lost in Space. White died in Arlington, Virginia, on May 24, 2026.
