Poul Anderson was one of the most prolific and popular writers in science fiction. He won the Hugo Award seven times and the Nebula Award three times, as well as many other awards, notably including the Grand Master Award of the Science Fiction Writers of America for a lifetime of distinguished achievement. With a degree in physics, and a wide knowledge of other fields of science, he was noted for building stories on a solid foundation of real science, as well as for being one of the most skilled creators of fast-paced adventure stories. He was author of over a hundred novels and story collections, and several hundred short stories, as well as several mysteries and non-fiction books. He died in 2001.

Poul Anderson recommends

The Best of Jerry Pournelle (2020)
John F Carr
"Jerry Pournelle is one of science fiction's greatest storytellers."

Noise (2003)
Hal Clement
"For well over half a century, Hal Clement has been a towering, even decisive figure in our special literature."

Shadow of the Seer (2001)
(Winter of the World, book 6)
Michael Scott Rohan
"Scott Rohan has an extraordinary gift for making every scene come to life with vivid reality."

The King's Peace (2000)
(Tir Tanagiri, book 1)
Jo Walton
"The King's Peace beautifully and thought-provokingly tells a story set in a world and a history almost like ours, but different enough to be in itself a kind of elvenland. It's good to know that there will be more."

Wisdom of the Fox (1999)
Harry Turtledove
"Harry Turtledove has established himself as the grand master..."

The Boss in the Wall (1998)
Avram Davidson and Grania Davis
"What a scary story, like a modern Dracula but completely original in its concept and chillingly realistic in its narration. Avram Davidson was one of the finest writers the fantasy field has had, endlessly inventive and uniquely vivid. Grania Davis has completed this work, which he left unfinished, in a way that does him proud."
